Sharma guides Lions to win in second practice match

Chandigarh: An inspired spell of bowling by Rajesh Sharma who picked up three wickets giving away 33 runs in three overs guided Chandigarh Rockets to register a 42-run win over Ahmedabad Rockets in the second practice match held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-3, Panchkula on Wednesday. Earlier, Chandigarh Lions won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting on a batsmen friendly pitch, Chandigarh Lions posted a total of 132 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Andrew Hall was the top scorer for Chandigarh Lions playing a knock of 26 runs while Chetan Sharma contributed 22 runs. Earlier, Chandigarh Lions lost their opener Mathew Elliot who made 11 runs while Dinesh Mongia departed without troubling the scorers. Gaurav Gupta too departed after playing a knock of six runs. Harpreet Singh and Chetan Sharma then began the rescue act before Harpreet departed after playing a knock of 17 runs. Chetan Sharma and Sarabjeet Singh then steadied the innings for Chandigarh Lions. Chetan Sharma then departed after making 22 while Sarabjeet Singh made 17. Andrew Hall and Karanveer Singh then took the total to 132 for 6 at the end of the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Ahmedabad Rockets was bundled out for 90 in 17 overs. Opener Sachin Dholpure was the top scorer for Ahmedabad Rockets laying a knock of 19 runs while Bhima Rao contributed 15 runs. Opener Pervez Aziz departed early after making 1 while Rakesh Patel contributed 10. Skipper Damien Martyn too departed after making 10 runs before the middle order fell apart. All-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi also fell early after making nine runs before the last three wickets fell. For Chandigarh Lions, Rajesh Sharma picked up three wickets.
