Chandigarh: In an exciting final of the TR Mittal Memorial Cricket Tournament, organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club, HDFC XI defeated Godrej CC by 4 wickets to clinch the trophy in a match played at GMSSS-32, here, today.
Godrej CC won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers put up a solid partnership of 41 runs in 5 overs. But once the openers got out, the other batsmen failed to put up any good partnership. Though there were some good batting performances from others but the batsmen failed to click together as the second highest partnership was of 30 runs. Monu Khera who came 5th down, scored 35 runs. Madan Lal was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets giving away 16 runs in his 5 overs. He was well supported by Umesh Kaira who scalped 2 wickets.
In reply, HDFC XI got off to a shaky start losing first wicket in the 3rd over itself for just 23 runs on the board. But, somehow the batsmen managed to see the team through and just managed to notch a victory from the hands of defeat hitting the winning run on the second last ball of their innings. Kulwinder Romy emerged as the most successful bowler taking one wicket.
