Chandigarh: Ten days after it was inaugurated, a drier extractor at the Modern Laundry Mart in Sector 15 is lying idle after the Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) from where it was receiving power broke. Even as the officials concerned have no time to repair the fault, even the two machines installed for commercial usage failed to accommodate the 16 dhobhis working there.
The mart owners had claimed that with the start of the facility, washing clothes would become convenient. The dhobis working there however claim otherwise.
Ajay Kanojia, General Secretary of Chandigarh Dhobhi Mahasabha, said two machines were not sufficient to accommodate all the 16 dhobhis. He said as they were using the machines for commercial purposes, one gets only one-and-half hour to use the facility which was not sufficient.
While the commercial operation of machines face rough weather, the lone coin operated machine, where one can wash 10-15 clothes by paying Rs 10, is gaining popularity. On an average, 25-30 people are using the coin-operated machine.
When contacted, Executive Engineer (Electrical) Surinder Singh Kandhola said they have not received any complaint regarding the damage to the MCB. The fault, if any, would be repaired on Tuesday, he said.
