CHANDIGARH: Following directions of Punjab and Haryana High court, the central bureau of investigation (CBI) has registered a fresh case in the Moga sex scam involving politicians, senior police officials, bureaucrats and others. Meanwhile, the investigation agency has also taken possession of previous records including FIRs and statements recorded under Section 164 of CrPC by two girls.
A division bench of justices Mehtab Singh Gill and Harbans Lal on Tuesday had observed that the probe couldn’t go further if the case stayed with the Punjab police because names of influential individuals, including Barjinder Singh, son of former minister and senior SAD leader Tota Singh and former Moga SSP Devinder Singh Garcha had come up during the probe. The HC also directed accused Raman Kumar, suspended SHO of police station, City-I Moga to surrender before SP/DSP special crime branch, CBI.
While sources maintained that Kumar did not yet surrender before the investigation agency, a senior CBI official said a fresh case had been registered under various sections and investigation was started. Informing that two-three teams had been constituted for investigation, the official added, “We will also scrutinise the investigation conducted by IO Bhupinder Singh of Punjab police.”
The scandal was unearthed in April this year after Moga police booked many persons for immoral trafficking and a rape case on the complaint of two girls. In the next three months, a large number of persons were named in the case, but most of them were given a clean chit after they allegedly paid a great deal of money to the police.
