Chandigarh: Balaji Temple in Sector 12 A, Panchkula, being run by the Vankateshwara Swami Temple Trust, holds special place in their lives, as many religious functions are held here. To preserve their culture, apart from the temple, Andhra Sanskritik Samaj also plays a dominant role.
Festivals
Vinayaka Chaviti is one of the most important festivals. Celebrated on the fourth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada, the festival is also known as Ganesh Chaturthi. During the festival, they take oil baths and decorate their houses with festoons and rangvali. Another major festival of the community is Pitru Amavasaya, which is celebrated on the Amavasya day in the month of Bhadrapada. “Also, Ugadi is celebrated with a lot of fervour by the people of the community. Similar to Baisakhi, it is the New Year celebrated on Chaitra Suddha Padyami, the first day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra,” said KP Sarathi, the Balaji Temple manager.
