Accidents claim two in 24 hrs

SAS Nagar: Two youths were killed in two separate accidents in the tricity in the last 24 hours.

A computer engineer, who was staying as a paying guest in Sector 68, was killed in an accident last night in Mohali, while a 26-year-old youth was killed when a Haryana Roadways bus ran over him.

According to information, Sukhdeep Singh, a computer engineer, was on his way to Chandigarh to drop his colleague Kinsy Garg when a jeep (registration number RJ-7661) hit his motorcycle. Sukhdeep and Kinsy were injured in the incident, besides the jeep’s driver, Karanbir Singh, who also received injuries.

All the three were admitted to Fortis Hospital where Sukhdeep Singh died late last night. Police have registered a case under sections 279, 427, 304A of the IPC against Karanbir Singh, the driver of the jeep. The body of Sukhdeep Singh was handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination.

In the second incident, a 26-year-old resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, Kuldeep Kumar died after he fell from a Haryana Roadways bus in Sector 1, Panchkula, near the Government College today.

The youth, working with the Haryana PWD (B&R) department, was on his way to work when the accident took place. The body of the youth was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination conducted at General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula.

“It was around 9.30 am when the youth tried to jump from the bus. The bus had reached Government College point when he met with an accident,” said the SHO of Sector 5 Police Post Balwant Singh. He added that the youth lost his balance and came under the wheels of the bus.

Though the bus driver fled from the spot, the bus has been impounded. Police have registered a case.
