Chandigarh: A Five member team of the Bihar Legislative Council (BLC), Patna, along with Chairman, Urban Development Committee, BLC, visited Municipal Corporation today to know about the engineering projects and sanitation system in the city.
The team was led by Sanjay Singh, Chairman of Urban Development Committee, BLC. A spokesman of MCC said that the delegation is on a study-visit and they have visited the corporation to know the best practices involved in the engineering projects and sanitation system across the city. Mayor Harjinder Kaur made a brief presentation about services being provided by the corporation to the residents.
Briefing about sanitation system in the city, the mayor said that in the recent AC Nileson ORG survey of the 18 big cities in India, Chandigarh was declared the cleanest city in India, with respect to cleanliness of roads, efficiency of garbage disposal, dustbins in public place and cleanliness of public toilets etc.
She said nine villages have been transferred from the UT Administration to Municipal Corporation and these villages will be provided with facilities of water supply, sewerages, storm water drainage, roads and parks, at par with the sectors. The detailed survey of these villages is being carried out.
Even though Chandigarh is already ahead in water supply hours vis-à-vis all other cities in India, the Municipal Corporation has been able to further increase the water supply hours from 12 to 19 hours in the city.
Team leader of the BLC delegation, Sanjay Singh introduced the delegates and briefed about the functioning of the Patna MC. They appreciated the well managed sanitation system in the city, and the greenery in parks and road sides. Earlier, the delegation visited the Garbage Dumping Ground, near Dadu Majra and Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj. Yadunandan Parsad, Ramanand Jha and Bishwajit Kumar Sinha were among the delegates.
