Chandigarh: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana was issued notices by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on a petition filed by the District Bar Association in Sector 17
The petitioner has urged the High Court to direct the Bar Council to create sufficient polling booths at District Courts for the Bar Council elections. The petitioner claimed that the Bar Council had not created a polling station in the UT District Bar until 2002. This created a lot of problems for the district level judges, who wanted to vote.
The petioner said that Rule 5 (ii) mandates that there will be polling station at every place having more than 20 enrolled voters. The petitioner argued that nearly 2,000 voters in the district court will be participating in the Bar Council elections.
