Panchkula: Almost a month into the Army flats trespassing case, Panchkula police are sleeping over the issue with nothing concrete having come out of the case. As per High Court orders, Atul Nibber, the accused, had to join the investigation as and when called by the police, but it seems the officials are waiting for Nibber to show up for the investigation himself.

The SHO of Sector 5 police-station Balwant Singh said that he wasn’t aware of the case as he’d just been transferred as the new SHO on Saturday.”

A senior police official said on conditions of anonymity, “Atul Nibber should come to us and join the investigation rather than the other way round. He has been directed by the High court. Besides, it is not a very big crime and is only a simple case of trespassing. After receiving bail and getting out, it is his duty to contact us and let us know what happened that night.”

Panchkula SP Sandeep Khirwar said that though investigation is on, he still has to look into some facts before commenting on the issue. Khirwar said, “I do not think Atul Nibber has joined the investigation but it’s still goin on.”

Talking to Newsline, Atul Nibber’S counsel said that it was clearly mentioned in the High court orders that Atul was supposed to join the investigation and fully cooperate with the police as and when called by them.

Bar gets HC notice to create polling booths

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Chandigarh: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana was issued notices by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on a petition filed by the District Bar Association in Sector 17

The petitioner has urged the High Court to direct the Bar Council to create sufficient polling booths at District Courts for the Bar Council elections. The petitioner claimed that the Bar Council had not created a polling station in the UT District Bar until 2002. This created a lot of problems for the district level judges, who wanted to vote.

The petioner said that Rule 5 (ii) mandates that there will be polling station at every place having more than 20 enrolled voters. The petitioner argued that nearly 2,000 voters in the district court will be participating in the Bar Council elections.
